For this Symposium, I was fortunate to serve as co-chair with James Robinson of ExxonMobil. In spite of his very busy schedule, he carved out the time needed to help put this program together. He is a respected leader in our industry, and he provided leadership for this Symposium.

Ken Garing of the NEIC revealed what to expect if
audited by the EPA enforcement team, including the kinds of things they
look for when analyzing LDAR data. Ken also participated in the Regulatory Panel
Discussion and was on hand both days to answer questions.

Lunch was sponsored by Encompass and served in the
exhibit area.

Deever Bradley of ERM covered various aspects of
Difficult-to-Monitor and Unsafe-to-Monitor components, a controversial
topic!

Rex Moses of Environmental Analytics Inc. (EAI)
offered a motivational approach to working safely and effectively by using
integrity as the first criteria.

Buddy Joyner was the instructor for the “Beyond Basic
LDAR” workshop held on May 18th.

Rodney Jones of the

David Markwordt of the EPA introduced the new work
practice that is being developed for laser imaging as an alternative to
Method 21.

Mike Smylie of Environ Consulting described the laser
imaging hardware that is in development and currently available for
performing the alternate method outlined by David Markwordt.

David Hall of Proactive Environmental offering
information about “tagless LDAR,” an approach to component identification that
uses isometric CAD drawings instead of physical tags.



Guy Ward of Chevron Phillips presented results of
LDAR Best Practices research conducted by his company in cooperation with
the LA DEQ.

Eric Jarrell, an environmental attorney with King,
LeBlanc & Bland, L.L.C. gave a compelling view of LDAR from a legal
perspective.

Scott Boyson and Vance St. Jean of Chesterton offered
information about advances in control valve sealing.


Vijay Gudivaka of ERM closed the conference with a
thought provoking look at environmental data management and ways companies are
starting to profit from compliance.
